LeGarrette Blount runs like Super Mario (VIDEO)
The Tampa Bay Bucs became the most recent to fail in attempting to slay the undefeated Green Bay Packers on Sunday, losing 35-26 … but it wasn’t because of lack of effort on the part of RB LeGarrette Blount.
Watch as Blount breaks no less than SIX tackles en route to this incredible 54-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, leaving Packers defenders in his wake. And fortunately for us, someone on the interwebs had the good sense to sync up this highlight with the music from Super Mario Brothers, which makes the play even more fantastical, with Blount treating Packers like Goombas on his way to the endzone.

Peyton Hillis wins cover of Madden ’12
In what amounts to a total shocker, Cleveland Browns RB Peyton Hillis was chosen to grace the cover Madden ’12. This year, the cover boy of the popular EA Sports’ video game franchise was put up to a fan vote, with 32 players (one from each team) entered into a March madness-style tournament, with fans deciding who would advance. And after five weeks and 13 million votes, the undrafted RB out of Arkansas was crowned the winner.
Hillis, a 10th seed, went through a gauntlet of higher-ranked opponents, defeating Ray Rice, Matt Ryan, Jamaal Charles and #1 seed Aaron Rodgers in a stunner to reach the finals, where he soundly defeated Eagles QB Michael Vick to win the cover with 66% of the final round votes. The victory over Rodgers stunned everyone the most, leading many to speculate that Packers fans rallied to vote against Rodgers in fear of the dreaded “Madden Curse”.
But regardless, Hillis – who burst onto the NFL scene last season with over 1,600 total yards and 13 TDs – clearly had his own viral support team of Browns fans, and is eager to disprove the existence of the curse:
“For people to believe in this so-called curse, I can’t wait to prove people wrong,” he said. “From what I believe and where I am in my spiritual life, it would be good to prove them wrong in that sense.”
You’ve gotta know that the folks at EA sports had something else in mind when they started this tournament. But Hillis is pretty much a prototypical “Madden Guy”, so he actually fits the brand perfectly. And at this point, Browns fans will take anything that could even be considered a positive sign for their franchise, and Hillis is the best thing they’ve got going right now.

TIME WASTER: Snack Time with Rex Ryan (game)
Not much needs to be said about this online game from Taunter.com – Goddamn Snack Time with Rex Ryan – other than it’s friggin’ FANTASTIC! The goal is fairly simple – fill Rex’s cavernous belly with delicious snacks, while avoiding the healthy food falling from above. From the game site:

Now this is Fantasy Football (VIDEO)
Fantasy Football has literally taken over America, with millions of wanna-be GMs poring over their make believe rosters week-in and week-out, in an effort to prove superior football knowledge over their peers. It’s changed the way most of us watch the game, and we at R&R are certainly no different, spending far too much team each week managing our fake line-ups. And we’re not too proud to admit it.
Well for the folks over at G4 – who certainly know a thing or too about being a geek – the word “fantasy” conjures up some different images (i.e., World of Warcraft, Dungeons & Dragons and the like). So the nerds over there took the time to imagine what it would look like if their definition of “fantasy” collided with our world of pro football … and present it to us in a Tecmo Bowl-style video game. Need I say more?
Enjoy, Via G4:
VIDEO: Preview the new ‘Tecmo Bowl: Throwback’ game
So, this video is the “Exclusive Debut Trailer” for the new Tecmo Bowl: Throwback game, set to be released this spring on XBox and Playstation. From Gametrailers.com:
Call me a grumpy old man, but this just feels like yet another bastardization of my childhood memories in an effort to make a quick buck. Like every idea in Hollywood these days (see Where The Wild Things Are, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, etc.), this just reeks of a desperate attempt to forgo actual imagination and originality by slapping together a remake of something that worked 20+ years ago.
I mean, don’t get me wrong … we LOVE Tecmo Bowl here at RnR. It’s how we cut our video game teeth. But the novelty of that old style of game play will likely wear off in about 12 minutes, and it doesn’t look like the 3-D version is going to be winning over any folks who are accustomed to the Madden series of games. Especially since Madden (unlike Tecmo) is actually licensed by the NFL, so you can use real players, instead of generic guys like Brooke, Simmons and Thacker.
Hopefully they can at least license the names of retired guys like Bo Jackson and Lawrence Taylor, so we can re-live their Tecmo days of glory.
