VIDEO: Wes Welker takes subtle jab at Rex Ryan with 11 references to feet during press conference
To absolutely nobody’s surprise, the build-up to Sunday’s Patriots-Jets AFC divisional playoff game has turned into a war of words this week.
The never-shy Rex Ryan kicked things early off by criticizing Tom Brady in an attempt to get inside the QBs head and deflect attention from the 45-3 beat down the Jets took at the hands of New England in Week 13. Brady had supposedly done some jawing at the Jets sideline during their most recent match-up, which Ryan and his team didn’t appreciate. It all seemed like standard operating procedure between these two AFC East rivals.
But then yesterday, Jets’ CB Antonio Cromartie took things up a notch, telling the NY Daily News that Brady is - and we’re quoting here – “an asshole. F*ck him.” And just in case he hadn’t done enough to piss off the Super Bowl favorites, Cromartie went on to declare his hatred for the entire Patriots team. It’s a classic case of a player taking his cues from the head coach, and then going a few steps further.
Which is why it also shouldn’t be surprising that Bill Belichick‘s guys have – to their credit – maintained the high road to this point. There’s clearly no benefit for the heavily favored Pats in getting baited into a trash talking contest, and you can bet that the hoody has laid down the law about such antics from his players. So Brady responded to Cromartie’s taunts by simply stating that he’d “been called worse”, and then going on to compliment the Pro Bowl cornerback.
But today, mild-mannered WR Wes Welker may have decided to enter the fray for the Patriots … and he did so in the most subtle way imaginable.
In case you missed it, there has been a cloud of controversy surrounding Ryan of late, thanks to the revelation that he shares a foot fetish with his wife. So, in what can only be interpreted as jabs at Ryan, Welker dropped ELEVEN foot references during his press conference with the media today. It’s really quite brilliant when you think about it.
Here’s the edited video of Welker’s 11 references to feet, stepping up or toes:
Well played, sir. Well played.

Li’l Peyton warns Li’l Eli of scary green monsters (cartoon)
This comes to us courtesy of the Philadelphia Eagles, who posted it as the splash intro video on their home page today. Apparently this is the Eagles’ weekly attempt to taunt their upcoming opponent … who in this case are the New York Giants.
I’ve never seen any of their cartoons before, but this one’s actually not bad. Not as funny as the Bang Cartoons, but not bad … I laughed at loud at the way Eli talks:
The Eagles defense picked off Peyton twice and sacked him three times in their meeting two weeks ago, but if I’m the Giants this week, I’m probably more scared of Michael Vick than I am of the Eagles D. This game could be an offensive shootout.
But again, this is an official Eagles cartoon. Is this really what they’re spending their time on in Philly these days? Does this even qualify as trash talk? It’s more cute than anything. Certainly not going to get the Giants locker room any more fired up than they already are.
The Ryan brothers are bringing sexy back to the NFL
The New York Jets are preparing to play the Cleveland Browns this weekend, which means that Rex Ryan will be squaring off against his twin brother (and Browns Defensive Coordinator) Rob Ryan. And with sibling rivalry involved, you just knew that Rex was going to stoke the fire with some good ol’ fashioned pre-game trash talk.
But Rex took things to the next level today, coming out for his press conference before the NY media dressed up as his brother Rob. He then went on to jokingly place a bounty on Rob’s head for this weekend:
“There is a bounty this week,” Rex, as Rob, said. “I know I’m going to hear from the league, but I’m placing a bounty on my brother’s head. I am concerned some players will bounce off of him. I know I’m going to hear about it from the league, that is the truth.”
Thank GOD Ryan family … seriously, if these guys weren’t in the league, we would have missed out on some amazing comic relief over the years. I mean, maybe they drew the short straw when it comes to metabolism, but those Ryans sure are funny!

VIDEO: 2-year-old NFL expert, complete with trash talk
This is just priceless. Young Ben here has obviously been receiving the proper sort of home training from dad … not only can he recite all of the NFL teams, but he’s also already been ingrained with appropriate trash talk to go along with each!
Watch for yourselves and enjoy:

The best part is when they get to the Cowboys, and Ben pauses for a moment before confirm that he does not, in fact, like the Cowgirls. And the “one and done” Chargers call is classic.
Good parenting, Dad. We’ll be reaching out to Ben and asking if he’d like to become a regular contributor here at R&R. Stay tuned …
