Rex Ryan is a grumpy loser; tells fan to “Shut the f@#k up” (VIDEO)
You know what? I’m starting to think that, for all his bluster (and girth), Rex Ryan might not have the thickest skin for criticism … especially when he’s losing.
At halftime of his team’s 37-16 drubbing at the hands of the Patriots, with his team trailing just 13-9, the Jets head coach cursed out fan in the stands at MetLife Stadium. The guy – possibly drunk, probably a Patriot fan – clearly struck a nerve with Ryan, shouting, “Hey Rex, Belichick is better than you!”, to which Rex retorted, “Shut the f@#k up” as he walked into the tunnel.
Watch the video below, with the action coming at the 15-second mark:

Deion Branch mocks Fireman Ed’s “J-E-T-S” chant (VIDEO)
“Fireman Ed” Anzalone – the New York Jets superfan and self-appointed mascot that everyone loves to hate – got a taste of his own medicine last during the Jets 37-16 loss to the Patriots last night.
After scoring an 8-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, Patriots WR Deion Branch used the stage to imitate Fireman Ed, who leads the traditional “J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS” chant among his fellow fans. Needless to say, this didn’t go over too well with the Jets faithful, who were already having themselves a huge pity party while coming to terms with being swept by their division rivals.
Kudos to Branch for originality, and for finally shutting Fireman Ed up … even if only for a little while.

Mark Sanchez gets two for flinching (GIF)
This right here is why you don’t often see NFL quarterbacks lining up at the receiver position. From yesterday’s Jets-Bills game, watch Mark Sanchez get the bejeezus scared out of him by diminutive Bills CB Drayton Florence:
That’s two for flinching, Mark.
Sanchez and the Jets won the game, this certainly isn’t going to help his image as a pretty boy quarterback, is it?

Rex Ryan Rocked the Mullet Back in 1994 (PIC)
From our friends at the SI Vault comes this image of Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan from back in 1994. At the time, Ryan was a defensive assistant with the Arizona Cardinals under his father Buddy, which was also his first NFL coaching gig.
And as this image shows, in addition to sporting a moustache and being a few pounds lighter than he is today, back then Rex also favored the Kenny Powers-esque mullet as his hairstyle of choice:
Aeneas Williams approves.
Watch Fireman Ed’s Monday Night Football Intro (VIDEO)
We’ll be honest, we didn’t really watch last night’s Jets-Dolphins game, and by most accounts it was a major suckfest with the Jets proving to be less sucky, so we don’t feel too bad about that.
But when we heard that ESPN enlisted Jets superfan “Fireman Ed” Anzalone to do the Monday Night intro honors, we knew we had to see what they came up with. In their continuing effort to replace the erstwhile Hank Williams’ Jr., ESPN has switched gears from his rauckus theme song to focus on the host cities with more solemn spoken word tributes.
This week’s effort focused on the passion and loyalty of the Jets fans, with the 52-year old retired New York firefighter doing the honors:

Week 3 “C’mon Man” Lowlights (VIDEO)
The weekly “C’mon Man” segments on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown have become a favorite here at R&R, mainly because they allow us to catch any funny moments from each weekend’s games that we might have missed. And although it’s clear that Berman, TJ and the boys are continuing their downward slide into cartoon territory, we don’t mind pulling these lowlights from the worldwide leader for your viewing enjoyment.
This week’s edition includes a few moments from Sunday that we would be remiss not showing you, in particular the Chicago Bears pulling off the best trick punt return in NFL history (negated by a phantom holding call), Matt Cassel struggling to put his hat on, and a ref taking a tumble during the Raiders-Jets game:

Darrelle Revis mic’d up vs the Cowboys is awesome (VIDEO)
The NFL Films crew is back for another season putting microphones on the best players in the game and bringing fans the sights & sounds of the game like no one else. In addition to their unrivaled Sound FX program on NFL Network, this footage is also airing as part of a brand new series, NFL Turning Point on Versus, which apparently is a network now.
On Sunday night, Jets CB Darrelle Revis was wired for sound as he battled Cowboys WR Dez Bryant, and ultimately delivered the crucial last-minute interception that set up Nick Folk’s game-winning 50-yard field goal. It was the first time Revis had ever worn a microphone during a game, and the all-everything corner said that he forgot he was wearing it until after the fact. Revis suggested that some of the audio they captured would need to be edited for public consumption before airing:
“Yeah, (it was) pretty cool. I’ll tell you, though, there was some crazy stuff on that mic, man,” Revis said. “It’s the heat of the battle. He said words to me, and I’m saying words back to Dez.”
“It’s X-rated. There was a lot of stuff going on, a lot of back and forth … That’s real life. Whatever was said on there, that’s what it was. It’s in the heat of the moment, the heat of battle. That’s what it was.”
Even with the X-rated stuff on the cutting room floor, it’s definitely fun to watch Revis and Bryant go at it throughout the game, with Revis expressing his respect for the young receiver both during and afterward. But it was Revis who once again proved himself to be the best shutdown corner in all of football, delivering the big play when his team needed it the most.

Cowboys Fan Uses Taser During Brawl at Jets-Cowboys Game (VIDEO)
We’ve generally avoided covering the hot new trend of in-stadium fighting at sporting events, but things seem to be reaching new heights this year, as this latest incident clearly demonstrates. Let’s just say we won’t be taking our kids to any NFL games any time soon.
59-year-old Leroy McKelvey was arrested on Sunday and charged with three counts of aggravated assault and two weapons counts after using an illegal taser on other fans during the Jets-Cowboys game at MetLife Stadium. Apparently McKelvy – a die hard Cowboys fan from South Carolina – and three friends refused to stand and were talking loudly during the pre-game 9/11 ceremonies, which offended a US Marine sitting nearby, and ultimately led to a halftime scuffle. At that point, McKelvey unleashed the taser (which are illegal in New Jersey) he had snuck into the stadium past security. Three people were hit with the stun gun, but all refused treatment at the scene.
From the Cliffview Pilot:
“A Marine at the end of the row noticed that McKelvey and three others in his party would not stand or take their hats off for the national anthem,” a law enforcement officer told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “So the Marine tells McKelvey he better not have to get out of the row cause he won’t let him out.”
Sure enough, during the halftime show, McKelvey got up. Words were exhanged.
Keep in mind that this happened on the tenth anniversary of 9/11 … in metro New York. In the grainy cell phone video of the tail-end of the incident (above), you can clearly hear the taser being used, and you can also hear fans wondering aloud, “How did he get in there with that thing? On 9/11? How the f**k did that happen?”.
Tony Romo Fumbles Away Game vs Jets (VIDEO)
The Tony Romo we’ve come to know and love finally showed up in the 4th quarter of tonight’s Jets-Cowboys tilt at the newly-christened MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
After an impressive three quarters of football, Romo and the Cowboys led New York 24-17 with 9:12 remaining in the game, and 3rd & goal from the 2-yard line. With a chance to seal the win with a touchdown (or at least a field goal), Romo took the snap from shotgun, looked right, then left, then straight downfield before tucking the ball and deciding to run for it. See if you can guess what happens next:
The Jets later tied the game on a blocked punt & return for a score, and Romo – who finished 23-of-36 for 342 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT – had a chance at a game-winning drive with under a minute to play. But Romo’s first pass attempt was an awful one, getting picked off by Darrelle Revis, which set up Jets kicker Nick Folk to be the hero, drilling a 50-yard field goal with :27 to go.
