Jets lose DT Kris Jenkins for the year … again
The opening game of the 2010 season was certainly unkind to the New York Jets, who not only lost to the Baltimore Ravens 10-9, but also lost their starting defensive tackle, Kris Jenkins for the year. Jenkins suffered a torn ACL in his left knee for the second year in a row, leaving New York without the centerpiece of their 3-4 defense.
Jenkins, a 4-time pro bowler, suffered the same injury in week six of last season, and was looking like he had fully recovered in training camp, where he was emerging as the leader of the Jets defense. But that same knee got bent backward during the first quarter last night, on a 2-yard run by Ravens’ FB LeRon McLain, after which Jenkins limped off and did not return.
Head Coach Rex Ryan confirmed the bad news at a press conference earlier today:
“It’s a huge blow for us,” Ryan said. “I feel really bad for Kris. “I think he’ll battle through this, but it’s a big loss.”
Definitely not what the Jets wanted to hear today, after their offense put up one of the worst performances ever in the Monday night opener, with just 176 total yards and six first downs (tied for fewest in team history). And now the pre-season media darlings will have to step up on defense as well to account for the loss of Jenkins. Read the rest of this entry »
VIDEO: Jets hogtie rookie Brian Jackson and shower him with love
This clip is from last night’s episode of Hard Knocks, where the Jets veterans decided that DB Brian Jackson needed an attitude adjustment, after mouthing off to coaches and not grasping the playbook. Watch as Kris Jenkins, Jason Taylor, Antonio Cromartie and others hogtie the undrafted rookie to a goalpoast and shower him with icy hot, gatorade, talc, and an assortment of other fluids, then leave him to rot in the sun for a while and think about what he did wrong:
At least Jackson seemed to be a good sport about it.
