See, not even the players care about the Pro Bowl (VIDEO)
The AFC-NFC Pro Bowl is already the lamest all-star game in all of sports, and this year’s edition didn’t do much to change that perception. I tuned into the game a few minutes late yesterday, only to find the score at an astounding 42-0 NFC in the second quarter. Accordingly, I didn’t stick around to watch much more of the action.
Even though the game ended at 55-41 in favor of the NFC, it wasn’t nearly that interesting. The vaunted AFC quarterbacks threw five interceptions and CB DeAngelo Hall was named MVP for his efforts … but all you need to do is watch one play to understand that remarkable level of apathy on the field from both teams:
Nice. Nothing more impressive than watching some of the world’s best athletes run around at half speed. But it is cool for Browns C Alex Mack, who scored on the play, and was kind enough to grace us with a nice butt crack shot at the end.
DeAngelo Hall ties NFL record with 4 INTs; Cutler still throwing picks

Jay Cutler is having a heck of a season. After starting the year 3-0, the perpetually dopey Bears QB got his bell rung by the Giants in week 4 and sat out one game before returning. Cutler may have rushed himself back into action, because he took six sacks in a loss to Carolina last week, and apparently the concussion is lingering … or at least, Cutler would be wise to use that as an excuse after his performance today.
It looked as though Cuter thought DeAngelo Hall was a member of the Bears this afternoon, throwing 4 interceptions – all of them to Hall – in an ugly 17-14 loss to the Redskins. Hall became just the 19th person in NFL history, and the first since 2001, to intercept four passes in one game. He put Washington ahead for good with an incredible 92-yard pick six near the end of the 3rd quarter. The Redskins racked up 6 total turnovers and four sacks, and there were a total of 9 turnovers (and nearly many more) in a game that was brutal to watch at times.
But Cutler, in displaying his unique brand of stubbornness and stupidity, said he never considered not throwing Hall’s way:
“No,” he said. “Not at all. I’ve played against him before. There’s no reason to shy away from him. I mean that’s hard for me to say throwing four picks to the guy, but I still think if we had to play him tomorrow, I’d go after him every time.”
Really Jay? Every time? Really? Isn’t rule number one for a quarterback pretty much not to throw the ball when your receiver is covered like a blanket? Or is your strategy to just chuck it up there – regardless of the situation – and trust that your rocket arm is going to bail you out every time? It’s that kind of arrogance that will keep Cutler from ever becoming a great QB in this league … and probably keep the Bears from making the playoffs.

Mike Smith fined $15k, DeAngelo Hall $0 for role in sideline brawl
The AP is reporting that Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith has been fined $15,000 for his part in Sunday’s sideline skirmish with Redksins CB DeAngelo Hall.
Hall, on the other hand, was not fined at all. This may seem a bit odd considering that Hall launched himself into the Falcons sideline seemingly intent on starting trouble (mission accomplished!). But apparently Mr. Goodell saw something different than the rest of us, and decided to punish everyone involved except Hall.
Other fines handed out following the brawl include Redskins safety LaRon Landry ($7,500), Washington defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth ($5,000) and Falcons director of athletic performance Jeff Fish ($2,500).
And again, Hall = $0. Makes perfect sense.
Smith had this to say after Thursday’s practice:
“I received a letter from the NFL office this morning,” he said. “I want to reiterate that I’m always going to have my players’ backs and I’m going to take care of them.”
Good for Smith. DeAngelo Hall is a punk with a history of starting trouble, and it’s ridiculous that Goodell would let him off the hook like that.
VIDEO: DeAngelo Hall vs Mike Smith
From today’s Falcons/Redskins game – here’s former Falcon, current Redskin DB and noted jackass DeAngelo Hall squaring off against the entire Atlanta bench, including Head Coach Mike Smith. Watch for the shock of white hair in the middle of the scrum … it almost looks like Smith might have thrown a right cross in there!:
Deuce McAllister & Marvin Harrison Should Probably Just Quit the Game

Someone should tell Deuce and Marvin to hang 'em up
Mike Florio of The Sporting News has an interesting list of players in the NFL who he believes should retire from the sport … immediately.
There has been a long tradition of guys who are past their prime, but insist on wearing out their welcome in the league. Whether it’s for the money, the competitive spirit, or simply because their egos won’t let them walk away, how many NFLers have tarnished their legacies by hanging around for 3-5 years longer than they should have?
Ladies and gentlemen, your top 5 NFL players who should probably think about going into broadcasting:
- Deuce McAllister
- Brett Favre
- Marvin Harrison
- John Kitna
- DeAngelo Hall
Not to spoil the ending, but Plaxico Burress also made the list.
