Yikes … Ryan Leaf arrested for second time in four days (Photo)

Ryan Leaf is desperately crying out for help.

Just two days after being arrested for burglary and drug possession, the former #2 overall pick was arrested for a second time in Montana early Monday. And once again, Leaf was busted for … you guessed it, burglary and drug possession.

(Photo: thehollywoodgossip.com)

All of this trouble stems from Leaf’s long-running addiction to painkillers, which got him in trouble in 2008 while an assistant coach at West Texas A&M, ultimately leading to a 2010 drug and burglary indictment.

On Friday, Leaf was brought down in Montana for similar transgressions “after a month-long investigation that culminated with the former NFL quarterback breaking into an acquaintance’s home to steal prescription pain medication”.

Rolando McClain doesn’t seem too bummed about being arrested (PIC)

Raiders’ LB Rolando McClain was arrested on Thursday in Alabama for allegedly pointing a gun at another man’s head, threatening to kill him, then pointing it away before firing next to his ear. As he was being put into the Decatur police patrol car, McClain paused for the cameras, giving us one of the odder photos we’ve seen all year:

(Photo: John Godbey, Decatur Daily via impeccablesports.com)

McClain – who grew up up and Decatur and attended Alabama University –  is now facing several misdemeanor weapons charges, but says he’s still preparing to play in tomorrow’s Raiders-Dolphins game.  Something tells me Rolando doesn’t fully grasp the gravity of his situation.

Braylon Edwards arrested for DWI; released without bail

Edwards apparently chose to double down last night (Image via HotClicks)

By now we all know that New York Jets WR – and notorious trouble-magnet – Braylon Edwards was arrested early this morning in Manhattan on charges of driving while intoxicated. Edwards was pulled over at 5:15 am for excessive tinting on the windows of his SUV, and was later determined to have a blood alcohol level of .16 – twice the legal limit. This afternoon, Edwards was released on his own recognizance, and went straight to the Jets facilities to meet with his team and coaches.

Edwards' mugshot: beard & vision looking a little slanted

At the time of his arrest, there were four other people in Edwards’ vehicle, including Jets DE Vernon Gholston and OT D’Brickashaw Ferguson.  The banner photo above was taken Monday night at a charity event put on by Jets WR Jerricho Cotchery, and shows that Edwards was already well on his way to getting hammered while double-fisting at the tables.  But that event ended at 9:30pm, which begs the question: what exactly were Edwards and his teammates doing until 5 in the morning?

Edwards reportedly told police at the scene that they were coming from a party, that he had only had “a couple of drinks,” and that he last had a drink “about an hour ago.”  But that’s obviously not true, since he was still wasted at the time.  And how drunk must Gholston and Ferguson have been to get in a car with Edwards and think it’s a good idea?

Braylon – who scored a TD in Sunday’s win over the Patriots – just can’t seem to let a good thing be.  Not only did he screw up on that play by doing the “Dougie” and drawing a 15-yard taunting penalty, but now he goes and does this, potentially jeopardizing his career in New York.  Read the rest of this entry »

JaMarcus Russell Arrested for Sippin on Sizzurp

Is it me or does JaMarcus look slimmer in this mug shot? (Image: Press-Register)

In his continuing quest to be the biggest NFL draft bust of all time, former Oakland Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell was arrested today in Mobile, Alabama for possession of a controlled substance – namely codine syrup. Russell, the 2001 #1 overall draft pick, was released by the Raiders in May, and is seemingly intent on continuing his downward spiral toward oblivion.

For those of you unfamiliar with hip-hop culture, codine syrup is the main ingredient in a drug cocktail known as “Purple Drank”, syrup or sizzurp, which has been popularized in the music of the Three 6 Mafia and Lil’ Wayne, among others.  ESPN’s Outside the Lines recently did a feature on the rise of the sizzurp in sports:

Russell was released on $2500 bail, and will appear in court on Wednesday, July 7th.  And somewhere, Ryan Leaf and Todd Marinovich are high-fiving.

Now enjoy this educational music video from the Three 6 Mafia (after the jump):

UPDATED: Lawrence Taylor arrested on rape charges

Lawrence Taylor leaves the Ramapo, NY Police department on Thursday night (Photo: NY Daily News/Willens/AP)

2nd UPDATE: The NY Daily News spoke with the alleged victim’s sister, who says that Taylor didn’t know that the girl he had paid $300 to have sex with was underage:

Accused pimp Rasheed Davis beat the teenager before taking her to Taylor’s hotel room and warned her “she would get a worse beating if she tried to tell Mr. Taylor anything,” the sister said.

“She said she had no choice but to go along with it,” the sister said. “She doesn’t blame Mr. Taylor because he had no idea (she was a minor).”

As more details emerge in this case, it’s becoming clear that the real dirtbag here is this Rasheed Davis. I mean, LT definitely shouldn’t be paying shady pimps to find young girls for him to have sex with, and he still has some serious explaining to do in this whole debacle. But according to TMZ (who has been all over this case), the alleged victim told police that she told Taylor she was 19 years old.  And now, the FBI is investigating Davis on suspicion of human sex trafficking, who reportedly forced the girl to “engage in multiple commercial sex acts with various individuals”.

————————————

UPDATE: Via the NY Daily News, LT has been officially charged with third-degree rape and soliciting a prostitute. Taylor, who was just arraigned and released on $75,000 bail, has been cooperative according to police. He allegedly paid the 16-year-old girl (not 15 as previously reported) $300 for sex.

From Ralph Vacchiano’s blog, The Blue Screen:

Ramapo Town Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence indicated that police do not suspect Taylor of beating the 16-year-old girl. In fact, he said, the black eye she suffered “occurred prior to her entering the room.”

Ramapo Chief of Police Peter Brower would not say if Taylor knew the girl was underage, but said “Ignorance is not an excuse to an individual’s age.”

Taylor could be facing up to four years in prison.

The hit parade of current and former NFL athletes making the headlines for all the wrong reasons continues.  WCBS-TV is reporting that former New York Giant Lawrence Taylor was arrested this morning after being accused of rape in a NY hotel:

Taylor, 51, was taken into custody by the Town of Ramapo police after being accused of raping someone in the Holiday Inn Holidome Hotel in Suffern.

Details surrounding the rape have not yet been released other than the location and that it occurred early this morning. Charges against the Hall of Fame linebacker will be filed once police complete their investigation.

Taylor – unarguably one of the greatest NFL players of all time – is no stranger to trouble, having been suspended by the league several times for cocaine use, followed by three trips to prison on drug charges after he retired from football.

But by all accounts, LT had been sober for over 10 years, and this is the first real trouble he’s seen in quite a while (except for a minor traffic offense last year).

Lawrence Taylor arrested, sober

Despite the bloodshot eyes, police say LT was completely sober

(Photo: Miami-Dade Corrections)

Former NY Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor was arrested in Miami on Sunday night for leaving the scene of an accident.  And despite the bloodshot eyes in the mug shot to the right, police say that Taylor – who has a history of drug abuse – was completely sober at the time of his arrest.

Although, if Taylor was sober, I’m not sure how he’s going to explain driving 2 miles without his right-front tire, which was separated from his car during the crash.  Taylor told police he thought he hit a guard rail and continued driving on just the axle … that is, until he must have noticed the sparks and flying chunks of pavement coming from the right side of his Cadillac Escalade.

Taylor was found 2 miles from the scene of the accident while talking on his cell phone, and police said he was so coherent they didn’t feel the need to give him a sobriety test.  He was released on $500 bond.

Shawne Merriman arrested for choking Tila Tequila

Merriman allegedly took a shot at Tequila

Merriman allegedly took a shot o' Tequila

Update – Merriman Speaks, no charges files

Shawne Merriman sent a statement to FoxSports.com, denying the allegations against him, and stating that no charges have been filed.  From the statement:

“On September 6, 2009 the San Diego Sheriff’s Department responded to a citizen’s complaint that was initiated by Tila Nguyen (aka Tila Tequila). I was taken into custody based upon that complaint. At the time, I was concerned about her welfare given the intoxicated state she appeared to be in and I encouraged her to stay until safe transportation could be provided.

“We would all do our best to help a friend if we considered their actions to be detrimental to their personal safety. I in no way caused any harm to Ms. Nguyen, however, paramedics were called and she was examined but no injuries were reported. She was released and has since returned to Los Angeles, California.

“There have been no charges filed against me.”

San Diego Chargers LB Shawne Merriman was arrested early Sunday morning for allegedly choking and restraining his girlfriend (and Myspace/MTV hussy starlet) Tila “Tequila” Nguyen.

From NBC San Diego:

Sheriff’s deputies got the call at 3:45 a.m. on Sunday from a woman who claimed to have been choked and restrained by a male at a home on Sagecrest Drive in Poway.

“Nguyen told deputies she had been choked and physically restrained by Merriman when she attempted to leave his residence,” San Diego County Sheriff’s spokesperson Jan Caldwell said.

The alleged victim signed a citizen’s arrest at the scene.

Merriman’s lawyers denied the allegations, stating that the couple were at the volatile Chargers star’s home, celebrating a birthday with at least 14 other people.  They stated that Merriman was trying to prevent the inebriated Nguyen from leaving the party,

We’ll wait for more of the facts to come out before making any judgements here.  Clearly we’re just shocked that the seemingly-stable pairing of Merriman and Tequila somehow went south.  Shocked I say.
