Adam Schefter ponders the Madden Curse’s effect on Peytons everywhere (PIC)

Today’s deep thought comes to us via Adam Schefter’s Twitter, where he wondered aloud whether the infamous Madden Curse might be stronger than ever:

(via Twitter.com)

Mind = Blown.

It really makes you wonder why anyone would ever want to be on the cover of Madden at this point … let alone campaign for it like Rob Gronkowski did this off-season.

Fortunately for Pats fans, Gronkowski got knocked out of this year’s voting in the quarterfinals by Calvin Johnson, who will now square off against Aaron Rodgers in the semis, prompting Packers Nation to flood the voting for Johnson to keep Rodgers away from the cover.  On the other side of the bracket, favorite Cam Newton is up against surprise #11 seed Patrick Willis, who narrowly defeated Victor Cruz to advance in the quarters, much to the delight of Giants fans everywhere.

I’m not sure if this is quite what EA Sports had in mind when they opened the cover up to fan voting, but it at least makes things interesting.

Randy Moss Waived By Vikings, Remixed by DJ Steve Porter

Randy Moss waves goodbye to his latest stint in Minnesota (AP Photo via NFL.com)

UPDATE: We thought it important to mention that Moss hasn’t been officially waived by the Vikings yet. Multiple reports suggest that Brad Childress went rogue when he informed the team & coaching staff that he was releasing Moss. Chris Mortensen said tonight that Childress has “lost the locker room” and Adam Schefter tweeted that several members of the organization want Randy to stay.

Stay tuned, but Moss’ agent has confirmed that he was informed by the team, and it’s hard to imagine a situation where he would stick around to play for Childress now.

____________________________

In a surprising move, the Minnesota Vikings waived Randy Moss today, less than a month after trading a 3rd round pick to the Patriots for the troublesome wide receiver. Moss had an awful game yesterday in his return to New England, with just 1 catch for 8 yards, plus one play where he noticeably quit on a sure touchdown pass after being interfered with (Favre was injured on the very next play). And to top it off, afterward, Moss told the press he was done answering questions for the rest of the season (having being fined $25k last week for not cooperating with the media). He then went on to answer his own questions, volunteering criticism of the Vikings while praising the Patriots.

Moss will remain on waivers until tomorrow afternoon, during which time teams with the worst record will get the first chance to sign him, along with his contract (1-6 Dallas anyone?). But obviously, Brad Childress saw the same things from Moss that Bill Belichick did, and didn’t want him on his team for even one day longer. So any team that decides to take a chance on Moss has to be prepared for the headaches that inevitably come along with him. When he’s not happy, he makes it real hard on those around him.

With that, we bring you the latest remix from DJ Steve Porter, which gives us an auto-tuned retrospective on the career of Randy Moss.

JaMarcus Russell weighs in at 290 pounds!

I used to think this photo was altered for comedic effect ... now I'm not so sure

Adam Schefter is reporting that QB JaMarcus Russell reported to the Oakland Raiders facilities yesterday, tipping the scales at 290 lbs.  Apparently this is part of Al Davis’ new and exciting plan to have Russell run the Wildcat offense from the Left Tackle position.  Schefter tweets:

Two people reported that Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell returned to Oakland and tipped the scales at 290 pounds. At least he was under 3 bills.

This news comes in stark contrast to earlier reports that the former #1 overall pick was working hard to transform his body, and was said to be in much better shape this year.  Russell, who at 6′-6″ was listed at 260lbs on last year’s roster, was by many accounts pushing 300 during the season. And if this latest report is true, it appears that Russell is doing everything he can to solidify his place in history as the NFL’s biggest all-time draft bust.

Way to go, JaMarcus.  Nevermind that $68 million you’re being paid.  Whatever you do, don’t drive past that In-N-Out on your way home and hit the gym for a few hours.

Kerry Rhodes and Rodney Harrison: One, Two, Three, Four, I declare Twitter War!

With updates below.

Per Ohm Youngmisu of the New York Daily News, mouthy Jets safety Kerry Rhodes has ripped former Patriot Rodney Harrison via Twitter.

Screenshots from the Twitter pages of Schefter, Rhodes, and Harrison.

From Youngmisu’s story: “The former Patriots safety ripped Rhodes Friday for his comments to the Daily News earlier this week about wanting to “embarrass” the Patriots and hit Tom Brady often. Harrison also questioned the Jets safety’s toughness.

“I respect Kerry Rhodes as a playmaker but he’s not a tough guy,” Harrison, now an NBC analyst, said on Michael Kay’s radio show on ESPN-1050 Friday. “OK, I’ve seen him turn down tackles many a time. As far as him talking about them wanting to embarrass us, I can understand that. But let’s stay a little humble. Because when you start talking like that you really set yourself up to put all the pressure (on the Jets).”

On his verified Twitter account, Rhodes tweeted, “I’m detecting a lil jealousy from (Harrison) he must wish he was playing 2morrow. My talent outweighs his ask belichick.”

“You just beat Houston,” Harrison said in an amazed tone on the radio. “You beat Houston. Now all of a sudden, Mark Sanchez is Joe Namath and Rex Ryan is Buddy Ryan. He’s the best coach ever.”

Before the season began, the brash Ryan said he was not going to bow down to the Patriots and kiss Bill Belichick’s Super Bowl rings, which only intensified one of the NFL’s best rivalries.

Then this week Rhodes said that the Jets will try to rattle Brady and “hit him more than six times. I promise you that,” referring to the number of times the Bills knocked Brady around on Monday night. While Rhodes made it clear that the Jets won’t play dirty, he did say it is human nature for Brady to be thinking about his surgically repaired left knee. “If somebody is around his leg, or he feels pressure below, he’s not going to step into his throw,” Rhodes said.

UPDATE from TheDarkHorse: Looks like Rhodes and Harrison have been chatting via Twitter subsequent to this report from the NY Daily News. And getting ESPN’s Adam Schefter into the mix, too.

RHODES TO HARRISON:
I’m detecting a lil jealousy from @rodneyh37 he must wish he was playing 2morrow. My talent outweighs his ask belichick.

HARRISON TO RHODES:
@kerryrhodes Kerry, you talk big for someone who has yet to even win in the playoffs you think you will ever accomplish what i accomplished?

RHODES TO HARRISON:
@Rodneyh37 r u playing sunday? i respect ur game but u crossed line. and i never talk smack u started it. i kno u respect my game! Tweet it!

HARRISON TO RHODES:
@kerryrhodes I definitely respect your game on the field Kerry, but i didn’t appropriate what you said about the Patriots its disrespectful.

ADAM SCHEFTER to his Twitter followers:
Me? I’m guessing Belichick prefers a Pro-Bowl safety with championship rings rather than a Pro-Bowl-less one who tweets about himself.

RHODES TO ADAM SCHEFTER:
@Adam_Schefter yo man get it right he tweet me first about this i dont trash talk but i defend myself! so u get it right!

RHODES TO HARRISON:
@Rodneyh37 u being someone who played the game knows the media runs it i said we are gonna try to embarrass them! lol u should respect that

HARRISON TO RHODES:
@kerryrhodes And even though i respect your game, you do have flaws and i have seen you pass on tackles and not always been physical.

RHODES TO HARRISON:
@Rodneyh37 and i told u i respect ur game and u have flaws 2 lol. and so does ed reed! thats a given.

HARRISON TO RHODES:
@kerryrhodes The talk about Brady’s knees and promising to hit him more than 6 times is what hit a nerve did you ever come back from a surgery like that? no wonder you have no idea what kind of impact your words have for certain players who went through rehab.

RHODES TO HARRISON:
@Rodneyh37 see and thats my point i never ever said anything about hitting his knees! lol r u serious you know i dont play that way!
