By now you may have seen this video from Sunday’s Chargers/Jets playoff game in San Diego, in which a Jets fan is taken down by police and arrested, seemingly just for cheering on his favorite team:
Now, we don’t get to see exactly what happens right before the cops get there, but it doesn’t seem like he did anything to warrant getting tackled like that. Hell, even the Chargers fans sitting in the area are defending the guy!
I was waiting for some more of the actual story to come out before posting this clip, and in today’s NY Post, the Jets fan in the video, Bill Carroll, finally speaks up.
OK, so it’s not quite that bad.
Last year, this superfan named his son “Jake Edward Thomas Schonberg,” so that he’d have the initials J.E.T.S. And now that the Jets have made the AFC Championship game, of course, much of the credit must be given to little JET … right? Yesterday the Schonbergs appeared on ESPN First Take, and dad seemed way less batsh!t insane than I expected:
This kid is obviously going to grow up to be a Giants fan.
The playoffs can be an emotional time for football fans. While Packers fans have been crying themselves to sleep these past few nights, and Eagles fans are attacking female Romo fans, we thought it would be good to give everyone a little bit of perspective on things. So before you go throwing yourself in front of a bus because you won’t get to watch Tom Brady’s chin any more this season, please try to keep in mind that a) it’s just a game and b) it could always be worse … you could be a Redskins fan.
Comedian Danny Rouhier – of Redskins Anonymous fame – is back to recap the painful experience that was the Washington Redskins 2009 season. Love this guy.
Following the successful example set by Buffalo Bills fans earlier this season, a group of Oakland Raiders fans have taken the next logical step in trying to appeal to Al Davis’ sense of reason: billboards. The guys at MessageToAl.com spent $5,500 on this billboard (pictured above) near Oakland Alameda County Stadium, begging Davis to hire a General Manager to run the Raiders.
But wait, there’s more! They’ve also started a petition that goes along with the billboard, asking 4 things from Davis:
The petition has over 25,000 signatures so far, with donations for the billboard being collected via their website. 22-year-old Jared Staszewski of Erie, Pennsylvania – who must have suffered immeasurably lo those many years – is leading the effort on behalf of Raiders fans everywhere.
This is simply fantastic.
From the November 15th tilt between the New York Jets and the Jacksonville Jaguars comes this footage of a Jets fan reaching his breaking point. After watching his beloved Gang Green lose at the last second yet again (24-22 to a middling Jags team), this season ticket holder just snaps, and unleashes a profanity-laden tirade for the ages. Nobody is safe from his invective, including the chair in front of him, and the poor Jets cheerleaders.
WARNING: this includes a LOT of swearing, so turn down your volume if you’re at work (there are handy subtitles to go along with the diatribe), and enjoy:

As an east coast boy living in the Rockies, I can tell you that you just don’t get these types of tirades at sporting events out here. It’s classic New York. Everyone around these parts is trying so hard to be polite, and simply wouldn’t tolerate this sort of outburst. Which is too bad, because some of my fondest childhood memories are from “show your tits” chants at Yankees games. I mean, that’s good fun for the whole family, right there.

You stay classy, Baltimore!
You may be familiar with this YouTube clip from this past January, which features a distraught Giants fan crying like a baby after his team lost to the Eagles in the playoffs. It’s pretty much your classic web fail. I mean, I’ve been upset about a loss before … but, WOW … this guy took it to a whole other level.
Ever since that video first hit the interwebs, its star, Rob, has been mercilessly ridiculed around the world for … well, for being such a huge pussy. His handle was even discovered on the famed Giants message board Big Blue Interactive, where he has since been dubbed “Flounder”, and has become the site’s whipping boy.
Well, thanks to the awesome Comedy Central program Tosh.0, Rob has finally gotten his web redemption. Funny stuff:

Kudos to Rob for manning up and handling this all with a sense of humor. And of course for choosing to f*ck Lawrence Taylor. If you’re interested, you can check out the outtakes from the Tosh.0 interview, along with this thread from BBI where Rob talks about the clip.
