Martellus Bennett – aka “Black Unicorn” – saves a fan, gets the animated super hero treatment (VIDEO)

(via juanelway.com)

Giants tight end Martellus Bennett has a reputation as a colorful guy, always reliable for a good quote or tweet, and even going so far as to give himself the nickname “Black Unicorn”.

After the Giants’ 38-10 victory over the Green Bay Packers last Sunday, Bennett made headlines for saving a middle-aged man who fell from the stands when Bennett threw his gloves into the crowd. Afterward, Bennet said he “tapped into my inner super hero, which I do have”, quickly springing into action to catch the man before he could hit the ground.

“I’m usually a ninja, but my Spidey-senses told me he was going to take a fall, so I saved his life. He owes me his firstborn or something. Actually, I don’t want that. Maybe a sandwich or something.”

Well fortunately for us, Black Unicorn told the story to the guys at TheNOC, who give Bennett the animated super hero treatement, bringing his words to life through vivid, poorly drawn animation. It’s pretty great:

The Jets season summed up in one play (VIDEO & GIF)

(Photo: Robert Sabo / New York Daily News)

During one remarkable stretch in the second quarter of Thursday’s 49-19 beatdown of the Jets, the Patriots reeled off 21 unanswered points in 52 seconds, punctuated by one remarkable play that encapsulates the entire Jets experience this season.

Watch as Mark Sanchez tries to hand the ball off to nobody, then elects to take off running before getting taken out by his own lineman’s rear end.  As if that weren’t enough, the impact of Brandon Moore’s buttocks on Sanchez is so great that forces a fumble that gets returned 32-yards for a touchdown:

Ouch. After this most recent embarrassing display, even Fireman Ed is giving up his post as the Jets’ unofficial mascot. This might be a new low for Jets fans everywhere.

Watching this lifelong Colts fan get his dying wish will make you cry (VIDEO)

(AP Photo)

Meet Danny Webber:  a diehard 74-year-old Colts fan suffering from terminal prostate cancer. One of Danny’s last wishes was to attend a Colts game and meet QB Andrew Luck, which he was fortunate enough to do back in week 3 of this season.

This week, Showtime’s Inside the NFL aired this piece on Webber’s experience, which shows just the type of meaning and impact this game can have in a person’s life. It also includes a touching meeting with Colts head coach Chuck Pagano, before he was diagnosed with leukemia, and a beautiful moment when Webber meets Luck, who he calls “the greatest football player the Colts will ever have.”

If you don’t get choked up watching this video, you should probably go get your heart checked out.

Following the success of “Cleveland ’95″, networks to present “F%&* Cleveland Night” (VIDEO)

This is hilarious.

Last week, the NFL Network aired the latest in their ongoing series “A Football Life“, entitled “Cleveland ’95“, which looked back at that fateful final season before Art Modell moved the Browns to Baltimore. It also examines the first head coaching tenure of a young Bill Belicheck, whose effort toward re-building the franchise went for naught, as the very team was yanked out from under them before they really had a chance. It was a rough time for all Browns fans … one that many have yet to fully recover from, and certainly not something they were particularly eager to re-live.

Well our old friend Mike Polk (of “Factory of Sadness” fame) is here to put things into perspective for us, with this brilliant teaser for the sports broadcasting world’s next plan to kick Cleveland fans while they’re down —  simply called, “F%&* Cleveland Night”.  With “the sole purpose of depressing the s#!t out of America’s longest-suffering sports fans”, this joint-venture of the NFL Network and ESPN promises to bring back all of the worst nightmares from Cleveland sports history … all in glorious HD, and right into your living room.

That’s right. Among other punches to the gut, Browns fans will get “the Decision”, “the Drive”, “the Shot”, and “the Fumble”.  All. Night. Long.  Oh, and just to ratchet up the sadness factor, the lowlights will be set to the music of Adele.

So there’s a Peyton Manning corn maze now (PHOTO & VIDEO)

Think Broncos fans are excited about Peyton Manning’s debut?

Check out this photo of Fritzler Farm Corn Maze in LaSalle, Colorado, whose owners decided to model their annual maze to look like Manning:

(via sportsillustrated.com)

The maze opens to the public on September 15th.  I would just hate to get lost in the Manning Face.

And of course, now Peyton can team up with the Marshawn Lynch corn maze to dominate vegetation labyrinths worldwide.

Worst. Steelers Tattoo. Ever. (PIC)

Via Reddit/r/nfl comes this photo of one Steelers fan’s remarkable new tattoo, and … well … let’s just let the picture speak for itself:

(Photo via reddit)

No words … They should’ve sent a poet.

Apparently, this work of art was created by this tattoo artist named Brian (of “Brian’s Tattoos” in central PA), who actually has a history of inking people with his child-like drawings, without one hint of intended irony. He even posted this image to Facebook as an example of his “work”, and Brian adamantly defends his portfolio (his other tattoos are equally inspiring) against anyone who dares to hate. One glance at his Facebook page, and you immediately realize that Brian is either the most delusional, meth-addled tattoo artist in history, or is playing a huge joke on everyone.

Let’s hope it’s the latter, but either way, I feel badly for Brian’s poor subjects, who have to live with this “art” on their bodies for the rest of their lives.

Young Giants fan offers Brandon Jacobs $3.36 to return to NY (PIC)

As we all know by now, after winning his second Super Bowl Championship as a member of the NY Giants this year, RB Brandon Jacobs decided to head for greener pastures and sign with the 49ers. And by “greener”, we mean a place where he could get “more money”.

Well, one young Giants fan took that to heart, and decided to try and do something about it. When his parents informed him that the Giants couldn’t afford to keep the bruising back, 6-year-old Joe Armento reached into his own piggy bank in an attempt to convince Jacobs to stay in New York. Check out this amazing letter that Jacobs received from Joe (with the help of his mother Julie), and posted to his Twitter account on Tuesday (full text after the jump):

(Photo via Twitter)

The usually imposing back seemed genuinely touched by the gesture, Tweeting: “I almost cried. I’m still trying to hold it in. I may have to pay him a surprise visit.”

After giving it some thought and taking suggestions from his followers, Jacobs decided he would take young Joe on a trip to Chuck E. Cheese, in an attempt to make up for his departure. He also promised to repay the $3.36, but plans to keep the actual money Joe sent, apparently as a reminder of the fans he made while in NY.

Great stuff, all-around.

Browns superfan proposes adjustment to his season ticket package (VIDEO)

Cleveland superfan Mike Polk, Jr - previously of the epic “Factory of Sadness” rant -  recently received a note from his beloved Browns franchise, reminding him to send in payment for his 2012 season tickets.

This is his response:

Watch these Giants fans react to winning the Super Bowl (VIDEO)

So it seems that the trend of fans recording themselves while watching the final moments of a championship game continued on Sunday, with Giants fans everywhere looking to preserve their viewing memories of Super Bowl XLVI – good or bad – for all the internet to see.  Fortunately for these fans, Brady’s last-second hail mary fell harmlessly to the turf, sealing New York’s fourth Super Bowl championship in franchise history, and sending legions of Giants fans around the world into fits of hysterical joy.

This compilation of reaction shots goes on a bit long, but it’s still fun to re-live the final seconds (as well as the emotional post-game celebration) through the eyes of these passionate fans.

Watch this amazing compilation of fan reactions to the AFC Championship game (VIDEO)

(Image via Youtube.com)

There has been a trend sweeping YouTube in recent years of fans recording themselves watching live sporting events unfold, and then uploading their reactions for all the world to see. This has provided us with all kinds of tremendous sporting moments caught on camera from the fan’s point of view, like this remarkable compilation of fans watching Landon Donovan’s game-winning goal in the 2010 World Cup.

And as you might guess, last week’s AFC Championship game between the Patriots and the Ravens provided all kinds of fodder for superfans everywhere to freak the eff out, with their cameras rolling. Between both Lee Evans’ near-game-winning-TD that wasn’t and Billy Cundiff’s field goal shank that lost it for Baltimore, the final few minutes were an emotional roller coaster for fans of both teams.

So that’s what makes this compilation of fan reactions to the game (aptly titled “The Agony of Defeat and Thrill of Victory“) – which features both ebullient celebrations and soul-crushing collapses from Pats and Ravens fans alike –  just so fantastic. You really get to feel the win/loss from both perspectives, and get a sense of just how much this game means to people everywhere. And of course it includes this guy.
