Giants Rookie Chad Jones unsure of NFL future after car crash
By ArtieFufkin
New York Giants’ 3rd round draft pick Chad Jones was involved in a serious car crash on Friday, leaving his NFL future in jeopardy.
The 21-year-old safety and two-sport star out of LSU lost control of his car early Friday morning in New Orleans, crashing into a streetcar pole. Jones suffered severe injuries to his left leg, including multiple fractures and exposed arteries and nerves, according to various reports. Two passengers in the car suffered only minor injuries, and police do not suspect that alcohol was involved in the crash.
The most recent reports [NOLA.com] indicate that Jones’ surgery was successful, with doctors able to save his left foot from amputation. Rocky Arceneaux, Jones’ agent, said that the seven-hour surgery to restore blood flow to Jones’ left leg went well, but that it’s too early to guess at a timetable for his recovery. And in perhaps the most encouraging piece of news since the accident, Jones is even telling his father he’s already thinking about making a return to football [NY Post].
Whether or not Jones ever plays a down in the NFL, he’s got to consider himself lucky to be alive. In looking at pictures and video from the crash scene, it’s a miracle that anyone survived:
