THE 2010 NFL DRAFT 2ND-ROUND LIVE BLOG

By TheDarkHorse

April's version of Santa Claus is ready to rumble (Source: Baltimore Sun)

Round Two is just hours away, and we’re already hearing buzz about heavy trading activity at the top of the round. As always, the QB-focused media is asking where Clausen and Colt will end up–but there’s talent all over the place, and Rounds 2 and 3 are where teams are built.

To help you get up to speed for day 2, Gil Brandt at NFL.com has his list of the Top 100 players available: guys like Clausen, Sergio Kindle, and Taylor Mays are certainly going to be hot properties this evening. At this hour, both Cleveland and Buffalo are negotiating with St. Louis for the 33rd pick in this year’s draft–which guy are they after?

As always, we’re following the action right here. Artie and TheDarkHorse will be filing commentary, breaking news, and analysis from around the league.

The Washington Post has the back story on Goodell calling Trent Williams “Silverback” when he announced his name yesterday. It was a joke between the two:

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Raiders trade Kirk Morrison today, now that they have McLain in the fold … he would be a good fit for the Giants.

I’m watching today on the NFL network … I suffered enough through ESPN yesterday.

I’m really excited for tonight. While the first round gets all the hype, I’ve always believed rounds 2-4 are where your draft is made

    34) Vikings – Chris Cook, CB Virginia
    35) Bucs – Brian Price, DT UCLA

So far, no trades, despite all the chatter and expectations.

Bucs get another DT to go with Gerald McCoy …

That was the pick the Eagles got for McNabb. Kind of Amazed that Taylor Mays is still on the board.

Mayock had hm rated as a 2nd rounder based on game tape, but he’s got a lengthy injury history which moved him lower on his board.

Apparently, despite what Mayock says, Joseph projects as a 1-technique DT, which is what the Giants need.

Gil Brandt has Joseph ranked in tier 4 of his Hot 100 (projected to go somewhere in picks 31-40), and had this to say of him:
Has really come on as the draft approaches. Has strength, size, speed and power. His best days are ahead.

Seems like a big strong body who will occupy blockers and plug the middle of the field. Can’t argue with the pick … the Giants DTs weren’t very good last year. Now we just need to get Brandon Spikes in round 3

There has been a MAJOR run on DTs in the 2nd round:

    3 (35) Buccaneers – Price, Brian
    9 (41) Bills – Troup, Torell
    12 (44) Raiders – Houston, Lamarr
    14 (46) Giants – Joseph, Linval
    24 (56) Packers – Neal, Mike
    25 (57) Ravens – Cody, Terrence

It’s definitely a premium position, especially as more teams switch to 3-4 defenses.

    63) Cots – Pat Angerer, LB Iowa

And now there’s a run on Linebackers at the end of the round. I really like both Spikes and Angerer.

Both Brown and Ducasse to the Jets are great OL pick-ups at the end of the 2nd.
