VIDEO: Brandon Jacobs vs Albert Haynesworth

Last night’s Giants/Redskins game was pretty much over before it started, with the Giants dominating from the opening kickoff to remain in contention for the final NFC wild card spot.

One of the more contentious moments of the evening came at the start of the 4th quarter, when most people had probably already stopped watching.  The teams got into a bit of a fracas, ultimately ending with punches being thrown by both Giants RB Brandon Jacobs and Redksins DT Albert Haynesworth.  Predictably, the fight starts when DeAngelo Hall goes at Jacobs after the whistle (hmmm … where have I seen that before?).  After Hall gets dumped to the ground, Haynesworth runs in to defend his teammate, swinging wildly at anyone who gets in his way.  Meanwhile, Jacobs takes a boxers stance and squares off with both Hall and Haynesworth.

Enjoy the MMA action:

Now, clearly both players should have been penalized (not just Haynesworth), and there’s no doubt that Jacobs will receive a fine from the NFL.  But these are two of the biggest, baddest men in the game today, and there was definitely something thrilling about watching them go toe-to-toe with one another.

It’s too bad that was the most fight the Redskins showed all night.

Jacobs is Haynesworth’s bitch. If you noticed, Jacobs was bold when 130 lb Deangelo Hall got up in his grill. But once Hayneworth showed up Jacobs backed up the other way with his tail between his leg. He’s not used to being the small guy.

Quick comment here from a Redskins fan–it’s a bit harsh on DeAngelo Hall to claim he was hitting Jacobs after the whistle. Mainly because the Redskins lost the New Orleans game in part because of the rule that says it IS possible to recover a fumble after the whistle. It’s an idiotic rule, but I’m sure the ’skins had it drilled into them afterwards that if the ball’s on the ground, you keep going after the whistle. God knows this was a stinker of a game by the Redskins, but this play is a TERRIBLE one by the officials. They blew the play dead too early, they didn’t penalize half the players they should’ve, and they didn’t eject anyone even though BOTH Haynesworth and Jacobs should have been automatically ejected for throwing punches. I can’t hold it against Hall here for going after the ball after the whistle though. Oh yeah, refs should have recognized it was a fumble too.

Here’s something else. Yes, it’s obvious Brandon Jacobs looks pathetic going after DeAngelo Hall here, but I think the most embarassing part is how he does it. First, after Hall cleanly knocks the ball out of Jacobs’ giant hands, Jacobs grabs Hall’s jersey and his fasemask! Then, using Hall’s facemask, he swings him in a circle and throws him to the ground. I’m not sure who’s ever played football, but getting your head jerked by a fasemask sucks. A lot. And Jacobs’ first punch doesn’t even come until Hall is already wrapped up by a teammate. Yeah, real impressive. That’s the wimpiest fight I’ve ever seen. And then obviously, he’s pathetic for backing away so quickly from haynesworth, but that has been noted.

On a side note, Haynesworth just goes after that offensive lineman for no reason. That’s friggin funny.
