RIP Chris Henry, 1983-2009
By ArtieFufkin
Super-sad news this morning, as Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry has passed away from injuries sustained yesterday when he fell from the back of a moving pick-up truck during what is being described as a “domestic dispute”. The details are murky at this point, but Henry apparently jumped into the bed of the truck as his fiancee – Loleini Tonga – drove away from their home following an argument. Henry was thrown from the vehicle a half-mile away. He was 26 years old.
Henry has a well-documented history of problems with the law, but by all accounts he seemed to be on the road to redemption after the Bengals gave him another chance in 2009:
“We knew him in a different way than his public persona,” Bengals owner Mike Brown said of the player who was suspended five times during his career. “He had worked through the troubles in his life and had finally seemingly reached the point where everything was going to blossom. And he was going to have the future we all wanted for him. It’s painful to us. We feel it in our hearts, and we will miss him.”
Here’s a recent video of Henry discussing the fresh start he was attempting to make with his life, and specifically with his family:
Sad, sad indeed.
