Live Game Blog: Thanksgiving Day Edition

Thanksgiving annually means 3 things: 1) awkward family gatherings 2) overeating/drinking and 3) football. Guess what we’ll be doing today?

As has become tradition, the Cowboys and Lions will be hosting turkey day games … off against the Packers and Raiders respectively (hint: neither of these games will be interesting to watch).  But John Madden is no longer a part of the festivities, and in looking at the banner pic above, we can’t help but miss the ol’ son of a gun around this time of year.

This year we also get an extra night game courtesy of the NFL Network, and I – ArtieFufkin – will be attending the Giants/Broncos game this evening in Denver, and will try to report back with images and tales of whimsy from the game.

In the mean time, here is Adam Sandler’s classic “Thanksgiving Song” to get you in the holiday spirit. All of us here at ReadAndReact hope your Thanksgiving is filled with joy and cheer!

And if you can sneak away from the family for a moment, feel free to post your gameday thoughts and follow today’s NFL action in the comments section.

As expected, this is probably going to be the quietest gameday blog of the season.

I just tuned into the Lions/Packers game before the half, in time to see Clay Matthews III drive Matt Stafford into the turf to end the half. 13-7 Packers.

Charles Woodson picks off Stafford to put the nail in the coffin. 34-12 Packers.

We got seats in the Denver Post box for the Giants/Broncos tonight … full spread of free booze & food. Should be a great time. I mean, until I get drunk & belligerent, evoking the spirits of Dave Meggett and Gary Reasons to help carry the Giants on to victory. Really looking forward to it.

i think there were a lot of things stafford did well last week (vs the browns i know), which included making passes on the move. im always weary when anybody throws on the move, or without a proper step into the throw, but I was amazed how 3 of his 5 TDs last week were while in full motion.

I saw him go back to that this week and it did not work vs. a better greenbay defense. Hopefully Stafford will learn from the strikingly different games. I liked the point either buck or aikmen made about how building around a QB can make a franchise (as with peyton/indianapolis). nobody would have expected him to resurrect the colts, just as nobody is expecting stafford to resurrect give life to the franchise that is the lions aka frankenstein

Well, that was brutal. The Giants didn’t even bother to show up last night. The score might as well have been 60-6.

Eli has regressed, and had one of the worst games of his career. I mean, receivers weren’t getting open, and he was facing pressure all night, so it’s not all on Eli … but it was UGLY. Bill Sheridan’s defense looks lost out there … getting ZERO pressure, and the Broncos receivers were running free all night long.

It’s clear that these Giants are not a playoff-caliber team.
