Plaxico is even dumber than we thought

By ArtieFufkin

YE Giants Burress Shot Football

New York Giants’ radio play-by-play announcer Bob Papa shared some interesting insight on the Plaxico Burress situation yesterday on Sirius Radio’s NFL Drive.  While there had been rumors that Burress had rejected a plea bargain offer, Papa broke it down even further, saying that Burress had an offer on the table to serve as little as two months in jail, but he turned it down because he’s terrified of going to prison.

From ProFootballTalk:

“This is what I’ve been told and what I’ve heard,” Papa said on the air. “They worked out something where they had it down to about a three-month jail term with actually only two months served and about 1,500 hours of community service. And I think his lawyers felt that they had a pretty good deal. He doesn’t want to go to jail at all. He shot down the deal. . . . He does not want to go to jail at all. So now coming up in another couple of weeks we’re gonna find out what’s gonna happen. But my guess is that the city of New York is not gonna back off any kind of jail time.

“Evidently, he’s gonna have to go to Ryker’s [sic] Island,” Papa added. “He’s deathly afraid of going. . . . [I]f he would have just taken the deal when it originally was offered it would all be over with by now. But supposedly the community service hours and the jail time are not appealing to him. He does not understand that he is not in any kind of position of leverage. He has no leverage. He — not his representatives — he thinks he has leverage.”

If this is true, Burress may have just made the 2nd biggest mistake of his career (#1 being that whole shooting himself in the leg thing).   Burress’ court date is just over 2 weeks away, and the minimum sentence he’s currently facing is 3-1/2 years.   (Quick Math Note: 42 months > 2 months)

The NYC mayor and prosecutors have made it clear that they are going to try and make an example out of Burress, so unless someone in his camp shakes some sense into him and convinces him to accept a plea bargain, this probably isn’t going to end well for Plax.

If you want to show off how bad you are by showing off your gun and being a very scarry thug, then you should be able to do a little time. Man up bad boy and do your 2mos.- get out and then you can brag how you did “time” and only the guys who have done “Real Time” will know what a wuss you really are. The people you tried to impress in the first place will think your a REAL bad ass.

Will anyone please tell me why Plaxico doesn’t have leverage in this case. Why can’t he take the matter to trial? Why can’t his councel challange this draconion law that is
unconstitional. Please someone tell me how Plaxico would go about getting a carry permit in new york city being a non resident. The second ammendment. Says i have the right to bear arms. New york City’s Mayor says i do not have that right.New York City’s Mayor says new york city only honors new york permits not non residents. I guess The Mayor is Doing the proper thing when he bloviates to the jury pool how plaxico should be punished and made an example out of.Is it to much to ask public officials to act like public officials not the gastopo. Mr Bob Papa did you or any of your friends in the media ever do any time in jail? I speak from experience it’s not fun.Yes i agree he broke a law but what happened to the punishment should fit the crime? Plaxico has been charged with POSSESION OF A HAND GUN IN THE SECOND DEGREE PERIOD. all this nonsense about being a thug Cursing out a cop etc is not relivent to the charge so he is being held up to scorn. This is not fair treatment probably a reason to play the race card. If i werw Plaxico i would take the matter to trial.

I think Plaxico could have a chance in court … if his lawyers use the Chewbacca defense:

    John

New York city is doing the same thing as Washington DC and a few other Cities not allowing Gun’s in the city. It has been challenged in Court and the US Supreme Court and the Cities all won. On accepting out of state permits It is up to the state on what if any other state’s Permit are accepted In certain state’s. A lot of state’s in the USA do not accept out of state’s permits But If you are driving on the HWY straight thru you have to have it unloaded and must be in the open as to were any law enforcement officer can see it. But why risk loosing at trial since it is a law on the books for years I would rather do what 2 months than 4 plus years any day of the year. It is easy for us to sit here on the outside looking in and comment but we are not the one’s who will be sitting behind walls and steel doors for what ever he decide’s and does with the case. The comment I do not like is that they want to make an example of him. Comments like that when made by the PROSECUTORS really is uncalled for that alone should be criticized. These prosecutors hand out numbers like they mean nothing. These are people’s live’s they control. I see people with serious crimes walk away with little or no jail time for there 3rd or 4th offense ( convicted) while people with non violent crimes there first or say been like 12 to 20 years between case’s get an out a lot of time when they should get probation or minimal time. then the media makes big deals out of case’s when it would get little or no air time if it was a unknown person ( just the average guy ) oh and if you have money you can usually walk on a case when a guy with no money will have to do time. The system is not fair in many ways people what we need is reform and have a board or someone at least keep an eye on what PROSECUTORS do and the wonderful PUBLIC DEFENDERS ARE NOT LAWYERS THEY ARE DEAL MAKERS to me I heard them say things like Well it is only say 6 to 18 months too 2 – 2 1/2 tears it beats the max sentence. WELL!!! EASY FOR THEM TO SAY THAT WHEN THEY ARE NOT THE ONE’S SITTING IN JAIL THEY ARE NOT THE ONE’S THAT ARE RUNNING THE WRISK OF LOOSING THERE FREEDOM ALONG WITH THERE JOB’S , CAR’S, HOME’S, BELONGINGS, GIRL OR BOY FRIEND AND PETS OR WHAT NOT AND THERE FREEDOM FOR THAT PERIOD OF TIME. PLAX, I HOPE HE DOES THE RIGHT THING , HE SHOULD HAVE NEVER STARTED, SHOWING THE GUN OFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
