Giants OT David Diehl Makes With The Funny

Giants Left Tackle David Diehl is apparently looking to follow in the footsteps of Michael Strahan, and decided to try his hand at comedy with a group called “12 Angry Mascots” at Comix earlier this week in Manhattan.

In this clip – which was one of two sketches he appeared in – Diehl plays the role of Brett Favre in an hilarious send-up on the sports news of the day (prepare yourselves to be dazzled by this electrifying voice over by a fired-up internet reporter moonlighting from his regular NPR gig):

[From NJ.com]

I love Diehl as a player – 5th round draft pick out of Illinois in 2003 who started all 16 games as a rookie, has played almost every position on the line for the Giants, and stepped up to the task of protecting Eli Manning’s blind side.  The guy is a warrior.

As a comedian … meh.  Not so much.  But apparently, Diehl was a last-minute fill-in for Knicks guard Nate Robinson (um, he was supposed to play Favre???), and he admits it was the first time he’s ever done that sort of thing.  So I guess he did alright considering.  The crowd seemed to enjoy it at least, and I’ve seen WAY stiffer athletes attempt comedy.

In fact, here’s this clip of Brett Favre in “There’s Something About Mary” that makes Diehl look like Will Ferrell. Great movie, but Favre is as wooden as they come.  Even multiple takes and editing couldn’t help him:

After the jump, we have even more video of NFL players-turned-entertainers  … including a CLASSIC Rosie Grier clip from “Free To Be You And Me”.

Check out this classic clip of Rosie Grier, Dick Butkus and Bob Lilly doing a godawful musical sketch on the Bob Hope show:

And, just because we’re on the subject of Rose Grier, here’s his all-time-favorite number from Free To Be You And Me, “It’s Alright to Cry”:
