Report: Cutler to Bears
By ArtieFufkin
ESPN.com is reporting that the Broncos and Bears have agreed on a deal for Jay Cutler.
The Bears apparently gave up Kyle Orton and TWO 1st round draft pics (’09 & ’10) and a 3rd (’09) to get Cutler.
This is a shocking development on a day where rumors were swirling wildly about where Cutler might end up (including reports that a deal with the Redskins was imminent), but very few predicted he’d end up in Chicago.
UPDATE: Fox Sports is now reporting that the Bears have also just signed OT Orlando Pace to protect their new QB. It sure has been a busy day in Chicago!

The sexiness of this trade is undeniable
Dan Snyder must be throwing a tantrum right now.

This is stunning.
I think the Kyle Orton neckbeard is going to be a huge hit in Denver.
God only knows what Josh McDaniels is thinking, though. Cassell and Orton as your two QBs.
Check out this article from the Washington Examiner … it says that the Redskins deal was imminent involving the Browns and Brady Quinn. Somewhere along the way, that deal unraveled, and Denver preferred Orton to Jason Campbell.

Yeah… the word inside the Browns organization is that the Browns do like Quinn (i.e. he fits into the system), but that *none* of these players were brought in by Mangini, so all are expendable for a value upgrade (i.e. Winslow, Edwards, DA, Quinn, anybody that might bring picks). An earlier post on this site references Mangini’s 3-year interest in Cutler, dating back to when he pursued him as the Jets coach. Cutler has the arm strength that Quinn lacks, and the field presence that DA lacks.
Note, you mentioned that McDaniels has Cassell and Orton as his two signal callers…. you meant Simms and Orton… point taken, that is a MESS. (Although don’t we kind of root for Simms to emerge?)
PS – Orton over Jason Campbell? REALLY? WOW.
PSS – Matt Cassell caused total mayhem in Denver, resulting in Cutler’s departure… and the reverb from that may cause major issues with QB’s feelings in Washington, Tampa Bay, Cleveland, ANYBODY attached to this deal via rumor.
A year ago… you’d bet your left leg that any Patriots QB SHAKING the league up in trade talks would be BRADY, never his backup, who never really took a snap that mattered before 2008.
Strange times.
